On the Sixth Anniversary of September 11th
Six years ago, not only New York and the United States of America but also the whole world was overwhelmed by the terrible news of the brutal terrorist attack that has gone down in history with the name of 9/11. This horrific attack toppled two gigantic towers in Manhattan after two planes piloted by suicidal terrorists crashed against them leaving a toll of almost three thousand dead and hundreds wounded. Likewise, on that same day, practically only minutes apart, another two planes that were hijacked crashed, one against the Pentagon and other one that fell in a field in Pennsylvania because its passengers foiled the terrorists’ purpose.
Therefore, for the last six years the American people remember these terrorist attacks and have taken the necessary and significant security measures to prevent that this brutal acts are repeated. In the compliance of these defensive plans, it has been necessary to adopt extraordinary measures that have forced changes in many aspects of life for those who travel on commercial flights. Likewise, additional security measures have been taken for sea and land transportation.
Speaking in general it can be said that the majority of the American people have understood the reasons for these security measures that, although inconvenient, are necessary. Moreover, everyone should cooperate with the authorities not only following their instructions but also helping them to be watchful and making suggestions that they might deem timely.
The terrorist threat continues not only for the United States but also for other parts of the democratic world. For example, we should remember the criminal attack in Madrid in March 2004 and in London in July 2005. Right now, a few days ago, a group of Islamic terrorists was discovered in Germany and was taken into custody.
We should pray to God to enlighten the authorities to take the necessary measures to prevent these crimes and to protect the people of any city or country that are under this threat.
