However, it is important for us to not forget the constant demand during these busy times.1 in every 10 people admitted to a hospital will require blood. Today alone, 39,000 units of blood will be used nation wide to provide organ transplants and save countless lives of accident victims A patient can require up to 100 units of blood. Blood shortages can threaten doctor’s abilities to perform life saving surgeries. The need for blood is now greater than ever, as numerous blood banks across the nation are reporting shortages.The blood donation process is simple, and only takes an hour to complete. The average adult has 10-12 pints of blood, and only needs to donate 1 pint to save up to 3 lives. The actual blood donation time only takes 10-12 minutes.We need to make our neighbors aware of the constant demanding need for blood donations during these winter months and the fact that it can save thousands of lives. In the time that it has taken you to read this, 30 people nation wide needed blood. It is important that all of us come together to commit to giving blood this winter.
