INTERNATIONAL CRISIS
In several high level meetings held recently in Washington D. C. and Madrid (Spain), the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Alicia Bárcena, spoke about the measures adopted by the region’s countries in order to deal with the effects of the international financial crisis, and the challenges that remain ahead for them in the near future.
In Washington D.C., the Under Secretary-General of the United Nations participated in the Experts Meeting of the Inter-American Dialogue, preparatory for the V Summit of the Americas (2009), and was one of the honor guests in the meeting of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS). In Madrid, she was invited to the European - Latin American - U.S. Forum, organized by the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), the Inter-American Dialogue and the Real Institute Elcano. Also, Ms. Bárcena delivered a speech about the economic crisis in Latin America at the EFE-Casa de América Forum.
